We can consider our digestive system as a long tract which sometimes varies in diameter, sometimes it is thinner, sometimes thicker. Digestion already starts in the mouth with mixing saliva. Mastication is very important! In the stomach, the gastric acid continues the digestive process. Gastric acid is nothing else than mild hydrochloric acid (HCL). In the duodenum, different digestive enzymes are added to the process depending on the food being digested. The pancreas and the bile have a common inlet tract. What gets into the small intestine is only a liquid mass. It is here that resorption commences. Then in the large intestine the colonic flora finishes the dissimilation and resorption processes, the matter congeals as the liquid also absorbs. The whole process has a duration of 6-8 hours generally. When it really happens this way, we can say that the digestive system functions properly. The large intestine hides 70% of our immune system! When the large intestine malfunctions, our immune system weakens, and toxins absorb which cause further problems. So, it is our primary objective to keep the digestive system functioning well. (Paracelsus: death resides in the bowels!)
